Patient compliance can't be over stated. This is why it is important to have a plan of action between the patient and the caregiver in concert with the Transplant team, and all supporting doctors BEFORE the monster, HEPATIC ENCEPHALOPATHY, rears it's ugly head and brings to the surface all the social and psychological issues a mentally lucid and capable patient is usually able to keep hidden from society and their doctor. Honesty is imperative. Listen to the team. If they tell you to get psychological evelauations, keep you a1c down, go to AA, keep appointments, etc., do it. You will need a plan of action so you can rely on your caregiver when the time comes, as it most surely will as your MELD score rises. Pride, deception, depression, denial can be the hindrance that prevents the patient from trusting the caregiver and complying with doctors in order to get the liver transplant. Patient cimpliance:
