Is creeping in.... it had been well controlled with 50mg of Spirilactone daily, that has been increased to 100 daily. The belly is hard, has the appearance of being 4/5 months pregnant, the belly button is sticking out - he also has an umbilical hernia. He swears it is gas. I don't think so.
At what point is it hospital worthy for evaluation for a drain?

I'd get him to a doctor, or ER immediately.

I'd get him to a doctor, or ER immediately. He refuses. I thought I'd observe for a few days and call 911 when necessary. I'm now being accused by him of suspecting "the step-father syndrome". I can't even imagine what comes next.

What's the step father syndrome? I'm lucky my husband hasn't had ascites. He's on a lot more water pills than yours. He had seizure like activity. Could be electrolytes washed out. As this disease progresses it becomes a balancing act of managing complications. Sometimes I call 911 just so I have on record that he refused. Of course, resentment t can ensue afterwards if you try that. It's a bad place for both to be in. The obstinate patient.
